Inventors Among Us: Congratulations to New Jefferson NAI Members

A total of 29 staff members were honored and inducted into the Jefferson Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors at a ceremony and reception held in the Bluemle Life Sciences Building on June 30th, 2016. The Innovation Pillar hosted the event to celebrate all inventors who have a patent issued from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and to induct new members into the Jefferson Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors® (NAI). Any Jefferson staff member listed as an inventor on any issued US patent was eligible for the honor. The event resulted in 29 new members being inducted. Drs. Stephen Klasko, Mark Tykocinski and Rose Ritts honored our staff members’ success with individual recognition for each new member. The Jefferson Chapter now has a total of 68 members.

About Our Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors: Then and Now

In December 2013, Thomas Jefferson University joined the National Academy of Inventors and inducted its first group of members, consisting of current Jefferson faculty and staff who at that time were inventors on issued US patents that were assigned to Jefferson. Now, the Innovation Pillar has expanded its membership to include Jefferson and Abington physicians, staff and students who are inventors on patents issued from the USPTO regardless of who owns these patents.

The National Academy of Inventors (NAI):

  • recognizes and encourages inventors who have a patent issued from the USPTO
  • enhances the visibility of university and non-profit research institute technology and academic innovation
  • encourages the disclosure of intellectual property
  • educates and mentors innovative students
  • encourages the translation of the inventions of its members to benefit society
