Jefferson is a member institution of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), a non-profit organization founded in 2010 at the University of South Florida under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Klasko. The NAI's mission is to:
- Honor academic invention
- Recognize and encourage inventors
- Enhance the visibility of university and non-profit research institute technology and innovation
- Encourage the disclosure of intellectual property
- Educate and mentor innovative students
- Translate members' inventions to benefit society
Members of the Jefferson's chapter of the NAI are Jefferson faculty, alumni, and affiliates who have received an issued patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
A total of 29 staff members were honored and inducted into the Jefferson Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors at a ceremony and reception held in the Bluemle Life Sciences Building on June 30th, 2016 (watch video). The Jefferson Chapter now has a total of 68 members. These inventors represent outstanding achievement at this institution and in the research community.
